We join the Asian Network for the Rights of Occupational and Environmental Victims (ANROEV) and others around the world to fight for better protection for those who work with Silica.
“Silica dust may as well turn your lungs into stone” (Hazards Magazine) Silicosis is considered to be the most common chronic occupational lung disease worldwide, eventually turning the lungs into “a stiff, inert, useless mass of scars.” Other risks to construction and other workers include lung cancer and COPD. We welcome the UK Health and Safety Executive’s Dust Kills campaign but join the 2023 All Parliamentary Working Group for Respiratory Health to call on the HSE to halve the current maximum allowed silica exposure limit – bringing it in line with the United States and Canada.
